Hotel Worthy Bedroom Design

Staying in a hotel, you step into the room with a sense of wonder about what awaits. Plush pillows, crisp bedding, ambient lighting, and a calming sense of privacy all invite you to unwind, relax, and leave the everyday behind.

But when you cross the threshold to your bedroom this evening, stepping from the bustle of the day into the retreat of the night, do your shoulders drop with that comforting "ah, this is nice" feeling? Too often, I hear from clients that this isn’t the case. The bedroom, instead of being a personal haven, becomes the home of the ironing pile, the family laundry basket, and those endless "to-do" lists. Maybe it’s even where the hoover and ironing board reside. I’m here to change that and campaign for you to have that hotel bedroom feeling at home. Here’s why.

The average monthly mortgage payment in the UK is £1,441.36 for a typical house. Breaking it down, that's a 'check-in' price of £48.04 per night. It’s an interesting thought experiment: what if we valued our homes the same way we do hotels? The average price for a night in a decent hotel ranges from £71 to £158, depending on the city, and most people wouldn’t expect to pay less than £150 for somewhere with a high standard of comfort and style. Applying this to our own homes, where we spend a third of our lives asleep, why wouldn’t we want to create a well-designed bedroom that benefits both our lifestyle and our well-being? If that thought motivates you to finally say goodbye to laundry piles and hello to a beautiful bedroom, you're in the right place.

Good hotel design isn’t just about providing a place to sleep—it’s about creating an experience that invites you to fully relax and feel cared for. So why do so many homeowners let their bedrooms become anything but restful, even though it’s where they make a nightly investment? Your home is likely your biggest monthly expenditure, so why not make it an investment in your well-being too? In a previous blog, "Seven Steps to Designing a Bedroom for Restful Sleep," I outlined a step-by-step guide to help you achieve that dream space. Below, I’m sharing a bedroom mood board, complete with a downloadable specification, costs, and a project template spreadsheet to help you get started.

Before you virtually 'check-in' to the bedroom vision I’ve created in the mood board, let me remind you why working with a designer can transform your project into something truly special. A designer doesn’t just help you envision the potential of your space—they bring it to life efficiently and with finesse. Whether it's curating the perfect colour palette, sourcing unique furnishings, or navigating the complexities of layout and flow, a designer ensures that no detail is overlooked. Plus, they can save you both time and money, thanks to access to exclusive trade prices and insider knowledge. For instance, to proceed with the designed mood board, the trade pricing would save at least £600!

This bedroom mood board evokes a sense of warm, organic elegance through its earthy colour palette and natural textures. The overall design blends contemporary minimalism with rustic charm. The focal point is the upholstered bed frame with a rich wood finish and clean lines, balanced with a pair of cane nightstands that add an artisanal touch. The woven armoire, with its intricate cane detailing, complements the nightstands while providing ample storage.

A muted, neutral backdrop is created using Benjamin Moore’s "Indian River" and "Long Valley Birch" paint swatches, offering a calming foundation. Textural elements, like the rust-coloured bedspread and a mix of patterned accent cushions in green and neutral tones, add warmth and depth. The pop of velvet in the mid-century modern-style green chair brings in a touch of luxury.

The lighting choices include a minimalist table lamp, a modern fabric pendant light, and an understated wall sconce, all chosen to provide soft, ambient lighting. The wooden writing desk, with sleek brass handles, completes the space, making it both functional and stylish.

The overall design is harmonious, blending comfort and style, making it ideal for creating a serene and inviting bedroom space that encourages relaxation while adding an understated sophistication.

In a recent blog, I outlined 10 key benefits of working with a designer—if you haven’t had a chance to read it, you can find it here. If you're ready to design a bedroom that will enrich your lifestyle, send me your brief, and let’s chat about how we can make your space work better for you.
