My Loaf Bed and other Auction Wins

With the recent increased price of construction materials and a greater awareness of sustainability, many home improvers are looking for ways to save. If you’re a conscious consumer I have a way to help make your budget go a little further.

Auctions! Years ago I saw a notice for a live auction in a hotel near my parents, for a giggle I went along with my Mum and Dad. It was great entertainment and Mum came away with a lamp and some ginger jars. After that my experience of auctions was limited to an occasional ‘buy it now’ on ebay because I didn’t want to wait (gosh I was so impatient back then), until I discovered John Pye Auctions. Over the last three or four years I’ve had some wild wins, including 19 LED Christmas Trees, (I got a bit competitive with my Dad and had lots of time on my hands), a Made.com wardrobe and RAK ceramic tiles amongst others all of which I’d like to share in this blog.

RAK Ceramic Tiles

My first win, bought prematurely before starting work at my last house. At the time of purchase I scooped up approximately £900 worth of tiles for £250 which I later used in the en suite, main bathroom and hallway.

Made.com Chair

A cute little bargain for £30. I did a little paint number on the legs as it was originally a bit harsh with black legs in this room.

Feather and Black Aubrey Tallboy

This beauty remains in my top three auction wins, I absolutely love it! A £799 solid piece of furniture for £160. It will be with me for a long, long time.

Loop Pile Carpet

This carpet came to my rescue when the budget was quickly diminishing at the end of an extension project. £60 for a Cormar carpet that completed two rooms.

John Lewis Prismatic Lamp

I fancied a gamble in lockdown when I wasn’t getting out much, along with some baskets this lamp was about £15!

Made.com Wardrobe

Currently waiting to be put to good use in our renovation, this wardrobe was available as John Pye started to auction made.coms entire inventory after announcing they were stopping trading. Another great saving, £850 wardrobe for £160.

Made.com Coffee Table

I haven’t got this table in position yet, but I’m so excited to see it in the new lounge at Alpine! A bargain £40 marble table with a previous retail price of £475.

Loaf Bed Frame

The most recent win which inspired this blog, and is now right at home in our spare bedroom. With a retail price of £995 this wasn’t something we could choose at this point in our renovation, but with the auction we saved just over £500 and now have a dreamy bed!
