Working with an Interior Designer for a Day

What is the Chestnut Interiors Designer for a Day service?

The service is exactly as you would expect, the expertise of an interior designer for one day. It’s incredibly flexible and a fast paced way to address a multitude of design elements. It suits a range of circumstances and property types, and is tailored to you.

  • Have you made a start on your renovations but can’t find the perfect furniture?

  • Are you struggling with visualising the potential of a new property?

  • Do you need to make some out of season upgrades to a holiday home?

  • Perhaps you know what you like but you don’t know how to execute it?

  • Maybe you’re just busy and don’t have the time to get things moving?

  • Want to get your house on the market but don’t know how to add the curb appeal?

The Designer for a Day service could be the solution to save you time, costly mistakes and stress. The service is perfect to tick off lots of decisions on your to-do list.

The jumpstart to your project begins with an initial phone call where we will discuss your key sticking points and explore ideas for your bespoke service. Following the call you will receive a questionnaire that allows me to get to know you and your home a bit more. Work then begins on preparing an agenda and research for the day that will target your pain points, this could include:

  • Choosing paint colours.

  • Arranging furniture layouts and creating floor plans.

  • Selecting flooring.

  • Accessory styling.

  • Decisions about lighting.

  • Trips to kitchen/bathroom showrooms.

  • Online or in store furniture shopping.

  • Use of existing furniture and accessories.

On the day I will visit your home armed with a sample library of paints, wallpapers, fabrics and flooring. We’ll begin with a walk around the areas you want to improve, creating a hit list of what needs attention. I will then create an inspiration board for your project(s). This is the quickest and most effective way for me to understand exactly what you like and don’t like. We will combine chosen samples to create individual schemes for each room and where possible these will be left with you to review in different lights. Any floor plans, elevations, or mood boards are also provided digitally on the day. For furniture and accessory sourcing you will receive a clickable shopping list to allow you to make purchases at a time to suit you.

Following the visit I will complete any further agreed materials or tasks, perhaps ordering new samples or sourcing furniture (up to 1 hour). You will then have everything you need to move forward with your project, however after a busy day there are bound to be questions you’d like to ask. Therefore you will have a further hour to book a Q&A session phone call where we can confirm any details or solve any other issues that come to light.

There is no question or area you can’t ask for help with; you might need help choosing wallpaper for a nursery, flooring in a hallway and need a complete redesign of your bedroom. Having in-home help means you will have a designer's perspective and expertise for six hours where we will make thorough plans to transform your home, leaving you to enjoy the changes agreed that will make a positive difference to your home and wellbeing. You’ll also learn tools and tips that will help you with future decorating too!

Common Questions about the Designer for a Day

How much does it cost?

The service starts from £325, where a property is local to the studio the cost is £325 but in occasions where distance travel is required this time is charged for. You can add extra services such as further product sourcing, additional layouts, 3d drawings or the curation of a sample box. These are additional for a small charge. You could also choose to subscribe for a month or two as a Renovation Room Member so you receive mentoring to execute your design.

How long is it for? Renovation Room

There is one hour preparatory work completed by the designer. There are then six hours based at the property. After the day, once you are working through your project you will have one further hour on a call/zoom meeting to go through any questions or anything else you need help with.

can the day be completed remotely?

Yes! In this case videos, photos and a zoom call would kick off the day. I would then spend 6 hours focussing on your design from my studio and we would conclude with a zoom call to present what I have put together for you. You may wish to look at the Design Kit as an alternative.

If you'd like to book the service, or would like more information, please send me an email and we can schedule a call.
